Our "Fun" for the Week

Ok, so I'm sure by now your thinking - didn't you do anything "fun" with the kids last week! You said you were going to do something "fun" with them every week while you were in Virginia.

(Alright, so you're probably not saying that - just humor me though!)

Well last week I took the kids to the Peninsula SPCA Exotic Sanctuary and Petting Zoo. I should of just let the kids look at the website because it was ten times better than the actual place! I figured we could spend at least two hours there - try just under an hour! And that was including lunch, which we ate in the parking lot because they had no where else to sit.

The only exotic animal that we got to see was the Tiger and she was sleeping anyway. None of the other animals were in their cages. (I'm not really sure where they were but they weren't there!)

As for the petting zoo portion of it. That wasn't horrible and it was neat that the kids actually got to walk around with the animals and not feed them through a fence but they tried to molest the stroller! I had to take Boy 2 out of it for fear of what they would do! And instead they just knocked him over into little pellets of poop!

Anyway here are a few pictures if you're interested:

Boy 2 chasing pigions.

A close-up of the llama.

Here's the goat attacking the food machines.

I guess we'll just chalk this up to one of those places NOT to visit if you're in the area unless you're only looking to kill 30 minutes of time.

And this week there won't be any "fun" times to be had because Girl and Boy 1 will be in camp for the week! Yahoo!!

Thats such a great goal to have for one "adventure" a week with the kids. I just might snag that idea myself.

Enjoy the one on one time with the baby!

I'm cracking up over that llama's expression - it's too funny! Love your blog - thanks :)

Here's my 2nd comment for the giveaway post. It's so frustrating when the animals are sacked out after you've dragged a toddler to the zoo. Hopefully, they'll be more awake next time.

You know, we've had mixed experiences with petting zoos--the kids like to see the animals up close, but often the goats (yep, I'm singling out those pesky varmints ;)) are extremely aggressive, and my kids end up terrified because the animals are as big as they are and are butting up against them for food. Glad you did have a fun time regardless!

We lived in Hampton for 6 years, and we went to see the animals for adoption a few times, but never tried the petting zoo. I never heard it was worth it. I guess it isn't any better after another 6 years, huh?
The Virginia Living Museum is a lot of fun, though.

I used to take my kids to petting zoos when they were young and they had a great time. We have a picture of me getting kissed by a Llama that makes me laugh whenever I look at it.

We try to do something fun each week too. Today we went to the Aviation Museum. We even got to talk to pilots and our son is signed up for a test flight in a military plane for mid-August.

Great Llama picture, by the way. :-)

OBSCENITY ALERT:

This Blog is my outlet. It's where I share my thoughts and feelings. It's a place where I can vent. Not everyone thinks alike. People don't always share the same religious or political views. Some people (like me!) occasionally think in more “colorful” terms than others. Sorry, but I'm a big girl and can use cuss words and talk about not-so-mainstream stuff if I want to. If you find that sort of language offensive / shocking / annoying, you may want to stop reading now. Life as a military wife ain't always pretty. It's my life, though, so don't say I didn't warn you.
