What do you say when.....

What do you say when you're 4 and 7 year olds ask you about this song?

Boy 1: Ewww....she said she kissed a girl.

Girl: Sooooooo.

Boy 1: Girls can't kiss!

Girl: Yes they can.

Boy 1: No they can't.

Girl: Ya-huh. I kiss Mommy and Grandma and G all the time!

(You don't know how glad I am that I didn't have to get involved in that conversation and it worked itself out!)

It's always nice when questions like that resolve themselves. Now you can really give it some thought and prepare yourself to come up with an answer, because chances are it will be asked again!

That's my parental wisdom for the day. (-:

Oh wow, yikes. It's crazy the things they will sing about these days! And this song is so catchy...

I can see how that would be awkward, but I always think honesty is the best policy - especially since they are not necessarily focused on romantic kissing. :)

I'm very into honesty. My daughter is only three, and she has yet to ask about this song, but if she did I would explain to her that some girls kiss other girls and some boys kiss other boys, its not right or wrong, it's just their preference.

I'm not sure how I'd respond, but we heard her sing this live on So You Think You can Dance and she sounds nothing like she does in the video and on the radio! We had to fast forward through the rest of it...

Wow, That makes me glad that we don't listen to secular radio..

I better start thinking now about what to say when that comes up.

Be glad you didn't have to think on your feet too fast about that one!

Wow- that's a hilarious story, but TOUGH situation. At what age do you start openly discussing people's alternate lifestyle choices? I do think honest is always the best policy. Your kids do remember what you say.

Concentrate on what questions your children ask. Not on "the sex".
On the music beat - not the words.

Tell your children the truth as best as THEY can understand it.
You like the catchy tune but not the words or not that a girl is singing the words. I think it would be nicer if two sang it.

You get the idea.

You know, my 11 year old loves this song and she was listening to it and my 5 year old started singing it. I put a stop to it right now because I think it is the most discusting song I've heard in a long time! Just garbage! Not something 11 year olds and 5 year olds should be listening to, it is R rated. Ok, stepping off of my soap box now.

No kidding. Thank goodness the conversation figured itself out. They came up with a great answer. Hopefully all kids believe this is what the song is about. Loving your parents and grandparents! Great! :)

What do you have to say?

OBSCENITY ALERT:

This Blog is my outlet. It's where I share my thoughts and feelings. It's a place where I can vent. Not everyone thinks alike. People don't always share the same religious or political views. Some people (like me!) occasionally think in more “colorful” terms than others. Sorry, but I'm a big girl and can use cuss words and talk about not-so-mainstream stuff if I want to. If you find that sort of language offensive / shocking / annoying, you may want to stop reading now. Life as a military wife ain't always pretty. It's my life, though, so don't say I didn't warn you.
