Finally - The Zoo!!

Now that I have built up this whole zoo trip like it was something special - I'll try to let y'all down easy and let you know that nothing really special happened...nothing funny, nothing out of the ordinary...nothing!! Just another day!!

Now I haven't been to the Baltimore Zoo or the DC Zoo in quite some time so I really don't have much to compare it to - but overall I thought the Virginia Zoo was fairly nice.

It was an enjoyable day (well until 3pm when Boy 2 started to get REALLY cranky) and we all had a good time. The place wasn't overly crowded and the exhibits were nice too. And for just $16 to get in -after our military discount of course - I thought it was well worth it!

Here are a few pictures from the day:

This was one of the snakes in the reptile house. I thought he was pretty cool because he was looking right at me. (I read the sign to tell you what kind of snake it was - but of course I've forgotten by now!)

This is Boy 1 playing with one of the cutest monkeys. He sat there at the glass and let people come up and bang on the glass (ok, maybe only Boy 1 was banging) and stare at him and he never moved!

Here is Girl with the monkey (note she's not tormenting it like Boy 1 was!)

Here's a meerkat - just like the ones from the discovery channel show - Meerkat Manor - isn't he cute!

Here are the kids running away from me!!

These are some of the African Safari animals. (Elephant, Giraffe, Rhino) You can see how much space they had to roam!

Me: Look, Boy 1 Boy 2 a Rhino.

Boy 1 Boy 2 : Where?

Me: Right there.

Boy 1 Boy 2 : That's not a rhino, that's a rhinoceros

Me: It's the same thing

Boy 1 Boy 2 : No it's not Mom!!

Me: Ok, you're right.....

At the entrance to the zoo they had this cool water exhibit. I didn't know it was there so the kids really didn't get to enjoy it too much. I should have let them play in it first so they had time to dry before getting into my truck!

In the end - I think we had a good trip. The kids seemed to have fun and they were 100% better than they were the day before!! (Who ever said bribery didn't work!?!?!?)

Wow! Boy 2 skipped right over ordinary sentences and moved into recognizing animals! Very good! I can now rest assured that when I see him next he'll know my name for sure! :-)

This day looks like a LOT of fun - I miss these days sometimes. But not the snake, nope could've done without the snake. Will be having snakey nightmares, thanks very much. Even if it is an awesome photo, which only makes the nightmares worse...

I love the kids running away picture! I think the VA zoo looks much nicer than the Baltimore zoo. And they even have a prairie dawg. (-:

TGND- Did you have any nightmares? Hope not!

Mom- So I take it you like prairie dogs? This exhibit was really cool. The kids could go underneath and look up in those bubble things.

That's a very cool snake, indeed. Now that we have a digital camera and don't need to worry about the cost of the film/developing/printing, I take a picture of the signs too, because I'm like you, I just forget otherwise. I also take a photo of the entrance sign or the Welcome to Whatever Town Sign, this way we know what we are looking at in the albums, even 10 years later.

I'm curious how you did that special effect with the two overlapping photos with the giraffe on the top photo. Or maybe it's a Blogger glitch?

OBSCENITY ALERT:

This Blog is my outlet. It's where I share my thoughts and feelings. It's a place where I can vent. Not everyone thinks alike. People don't always share the same religious or political views. Some people (like me!) occasionally think in more “colorful” terms than others. Sorry, but I'm a big girl and can use cuss words and talk about not-so-mainstream stuff if I want to. If you find that sort of language offensive / shocking / annoying, you may want to stop reading now. Life as a military wife ain't always pretty. It's my life, though, so don't say I didn't warn you.
