She Thinks We're Old

At dinner tonight we were asking Girl what she wants for her birthday which is coming up on the 23rd of December.

Girl: Well since Santa doesn't have a whole lot of money I'd like you guys to get me the dog.

(What dog - you ask? This one! The one I convinced her Santa wasn't going to bring because he had to make toys for all the other kids and couldn't get this and everything else she wanted on her list.)

Of course we told her that Mommy and Daddy don't have that kind of money either!

We continued this conversation hinting around about a new bike (which is what we planned on getting her) but she never really caught on.

Her next suggestion - a Nintendo DS.

(I'm sure most of you know what this is, but here it is just in case you don't. Yet another $120+ gift.)

We then went on to tell her that she already has a Leapster and she wasn't getting another hand held video game system. We also told her how when we were kids we didn't have any type of hand held video games - and we played with actual toys. Not TV and video games!

Her response: You guys didn't even have cable when you were kids!

Wow! She must think we're ancient! And to think we use to think that our parents only had black and white TVs if they had one at all.

My how the world changes with each generation!

Aw. I'm telling her you DID TOO play with video games. That's how Dad and I entertained ourselves when you guys were in bed. I kicked his butt often at Dr. Mario.

She should've asked me! Funny, when I asked her what she REALLY wants for Christmas or her birthday, she never once mentioned the dog. She did say what sounded just like "atendo DS." And I made her say it twice. But I AM old, so I get to play dumb, say "what's that?" and have her totally believe me.

What do you have to say?

OBSCENITY ALERT:

This Blog is my outlet. It's where I share my thoughts and feelings. It's a place where I can vent. Not everyone thinks alike. People don't always share the same religious or political views. Some people (like me!) occasionally think in more “colorful” terms than others. Sorry, but I'm a big girl and can use cuss words and talk about not-so-mainstream stuff if I want to. If you find that sort of language offensive / shocking / annoying, you may want to stop reading now. Life as a military wife ain't always pretty. It's my life, though, so don't say I didn't warn you.
