The Last of the Treasures

Monday I went on my last field trip of the season, this time with Boy 1. Of course it was also to another pumpkin patch but this time to a different one. (You can see pictures from the trip with Girl here and the trip with Boy 2 here.) This time we went here.

Would you like to see the newest treasures?

Can you tell from the picture alone that this trip was by far the best one. Not only did we not get a teeny tiny pumpkin but we got a whole crap load of apples that we got to pick ourselves. The rule with the pumpkin was if you could carry it you could have it. And Boy 1 loved it! Of course it took him several attempts to find the largest pumpkin he could possibly carry but he finally settled on the one above.

Of course we now have more pumpkins and apples (minus the few that the kids have already gotten their hands on) than I know what to do with!

Anyone have any suggestions on what to do with all of them?

And we've already carved a big one this weekend and I'm (well Shitface is) all carved out!

If you don't want to carve them paint them. As for the apples I would bake them with some butter, cinnamon and surgar in the middle then eat them with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Let me know if you do that I will come over!

I love pumpkin patches! They are so much fun!
I wish I was at home with my family so I could take my nephew pumpkin picking.. I know he would just have a ball!
I guess that will be for next year! :D

My little one always picks the biggest pumpkin he can find too. What about letting the kids paint the pumpkins? Or you could decorate with felt cutouts or ribbons. We finally just stacked all our excess pumpkins. I was too tired to get creative!

My 2 year old picked a huge pumpkin too when we went to the pumpkin farm.

I don't like carving either. Way too much work.

We'll be making pumpkins rolls with one of our pumpkins this year. You can find the recipe at TammysRecipe.com.

How about baking some of the pumpkin seeds? A girl at the School I work at did that. :) Thought it might be a nice idea, something different!

my suggestion...put them in a wagon, then walkaround the block with the kids and do a reverse "trick or treating" where you can hand them out =) or have a pumpkin painting contest for the kids and their friends.

You and your husband DO have funny terms of endearment. Great looking pumpkins! I also wound up with a lot of pumpkins, and I turned mine into soup and muffins.

I've seen some cute things to do with pumpkins in the family fun magazine (and website) like make them into bats. That might be fun to transform them!

I bought a bunch of apples too and immediately set to work making homemade applesauce! Maybe you should too!

For the little pumpkins, I'd say just let the kids paint them. And apples can make a lovely applesauce (and make your home smell wonderful if you put some cinnamon in).

Painting them is fun. You got a great selection of pumpkins though! They all look so pretty, I like leaving them alone in groups like that some years.

you could build a giant pumpkin slingshot and fire them at unruly trick-or-treaters

as for the apples. You must make the Cook's Illustrated apple pie. Its unbelievable.
